Snow, that's not really how the Anglos took over so much. While having the best military power helped, what really mattered was the economic and sociological impetus which also enabled that military success.

Inventing technology and industrial process was crucial. Not to mention common law and other abstract values such as money, banking, Enlightenment values, capitalism, science, maths and literacy.

When Anglos showed up in NZ, the cannibals were stone age and wood age people with no writing. Of course it was easy to show the local barbarians a better life and of course the local yokels took to it like a duck to water. Nobody wants to live in a ponga hut with southerlies whipping the wind through a few feathers woven into a sort of cloak while neighbouring tribes plan attacks intended to turn the poor bloke into dinner.

Unfortunately, the extension of democracy has enabled the dominance of looting opm as the dominant theme of democracy. It's not that democracy was all that great when voting was restricted to land owners because they would vote that slavery was a jolly good idea and for other self-serving ethical horrors. "Oh what a lovely war that would be. Let's conscript all those annoying young men and send them to the front."
