Govt can be used as a tool for taking property or for protecting property. Our politicians dont talk about protecting property any more. The american revolution was mostly about protecting property rights tho...the Boston Tea Party was a tax protest, as a protest against the confiscation of property by the state.

In the absence of govt, tho, there is also no protection for property, each person can take what they can...so we dont really have a choice...we need a govt, we can only try to make our govt effective at protecting property rather than destroying it.
