Kibby why not just put a DVDRAM drive in your DirectTV box? You wouldn't need an encoder, the data is already compressed. Just need to write it to the disk in a DVD format. Digital Broadcasts answer to DVD & DVIX. Why not do away with the middleman and broadcast the DVD content already compressed to your customers DVDRAM enabled settop box? With no physical media to distribute and no inventory to support. They could command higher margins but still lower the consumer cost.
