New Orleans and San Francisco are the only two major cities in the US where I could live. Austin, in a pinch. Charleston, Mobile and Savannah are the smaller ones.

I love the South.

Or some small town in the Rockies or Tetons, but only during the summer.

Any number of Colonial cities in Mexico, beginning with Guanajuato and ending with Morelia. Guanajuato....how could anyone resist a city with its own mummy museum? I won't bring the images here, they are disturbing, though not so bad in 3D.

Edinburgh and its New Town, of course, but it is far away, and the days too short during winter.

The most amazing thing happened the other day: thanks to Google, I discovered a branch of my family tree unknown to us for decades. They reside in Mexico City and appear to be extraordinary. Two are intense mathematicians, one a Ph. D. from the Imperial College. That branch clearly got the bulk of the maths genes.

The common denominators are a small set of villages in Hungary and desolate West Texas.

The patriarch was a brilliant businessman, then later in life embarked on a serious artistic career when he by chance picked up a child's toy oils set.

I am corresponding with this long-lost branch of the family, enjoying every second of it. Will hopefully see them soon.

Life is good.
