Thanks for your enlightening comments - that's a real help!

If I am not wrong CPQ still makes the PCAs themselves - their Commercial desktops are 100% in-house designed and assembled, at least to my knowledge.

Also, CPQ now sells a low-end Presario (4222) with intel P55 166MMX. Same box as the MediaGX unit - I would assume also the same mfger (as per Steve's input FIC). I saw that on the German CPQ webpage yesterday. The price translates to about DM300 (about US$170) difference favourable for the MediaGX! Actually, now that I think of it, they are also offering the 200MHz MediaGX in the 2230!!! Price translates to US$981.50.

You can check it out by going into the CPQ German website at compaq.de, choosing the "Produkte" header, going for "Multimedia PCs", and then clicking on Presario 2230/4222.

Quite neat what I would describe as sophisticated diversification!
