Not too many docs can afford to lock themselves away from the 65+ population. Is he such a rare, great high flying specialist? He is either very good and (or?) "popular" -- or not interested in being busy. Occasionally there are problems of a different kind at play, like... having been sanctioned. You are right to examine the situation a little closer. In any case, I think that the vast majority of practicing docs will not give you problems... for the time being.

That said, isn't it moronic that Medicare has such limits? Why not allow people who can afford to pay a little extra to do so? Historically, if a doctor would get a few wealthy families as patients, that would basically pay the bills - and there would be plenty of time and energy left for patients who pay less, and for charity work. These days if Warren Buffett will hand his doc $10 extra, they'll both be breaking all kinds of Federal laws.
