I've generally done OK by selling time premium and sometimes buying time premium for a specific event, like DDM's earnings release. I also like having the option (although I generally don't do it) of buying calls versus a short position that is getting too big for comfort (CR's comment regarding your sleep threshold is very prescient).

Again my outrage is directed at the standards of business practiced at the option exchanges. IMO, if an NYSE floor broker consistently backed out of trades he'd be quickly banned. I wish the supervisory bodies at the option exchanges would enforce some discipline. I agree that I, like yourself, reduce my option trading, because I'm sick of getting stuck with the bad fills and DK'ed on the good ones.

BTW, my problem today was with the CBOE. However, the Philly has got to be the worst. I generally avoid doing the trade rather than having to try execute something there.

BTW, I could be wrong on these conclusions. I know a lot of option principals post here at SI. I'd love to hear your perspective.
