Every President before Obama swept the immigration issue under the rug.

Precisely - supporting my statement that our leaders have avoided this issue for political purposes. The majority of Americans want our immigration laws enforced.

It is time that we take this on and this is the right President to do so

It is past time that we should take this on - but this President is not the right one to do so. He will most likely do another amnesty, like Bush Sr did which is great politically but neither solves the problem or enforces our laws. This is a temp fix that just legalizes breaking our laws and encourages more to do so in the future.

Re McCain and Brewer - By supporting enforcement of immigration laws does not make a person a racist. It is a nice political tool though, to throw at those trying to do the job they are hired to do. The real solution is not a fence or spot checking people on the street. It is imposing huge fines on companies and people that hire illegals. With no jobs, they will go home.

Our incumbants will never work for the people as long as they continually get re-elected. The Mass and NJ votes and the local school board losses in NJ for more taxes are strong indicators that the people are fed up with the status quo.

Re- th media - Extreme is a word that is tossed around. You label Fox as extreme - Many view the sources quoted and read widely by this thread as extreme too. ie Huffington, MSNBC, etc.

I have never seen any reasoning that justifies allowing the illegal situation to continue as it has. It is just cowering politicians, playing games for political purposes.

Regards

Neil
