I don't think its an example of "not reigning in", as much as its an example of most Republicans at least slightly supporting the law. In fact apparently its not just most Republicans but most Americans.

Personally for more immigration just isn't "my issue". I tend to not talk about it or even think about it that much. I don't have any really developed position.

I suppose I'm against this law, but I also think it is being portrayed as more/worse than it really is. Its not "like the Nazis", or something that "Harkens back to apartheid".

Here is a defense of the new law. I'm not so sure I agree with the overall position of the author of the piece. I do think he makes some good points, but one can accept some or even all of those points and still be against the law.
