John, I think the car makers have a problem with lower gas mileage. They can make the cars, but the ones that sell are the plug ugly, heavy gas guzzlers that offer housewives a false illusion of safety for for their kids. And guzzling pickups. I was on the road Sunday in an upscale part of town and bet my companion that the next seven cars we saw going the opposite direction would all be some form of truck. We saw 7 SUVs and 5 pickups before we saw a Porsche. That certainly wasn't scientific, and the ratio is way high toward the trucks, but when I go shopping, I would say the vehicles in the lot average 3 guzzlers for every fuel efficient car.

To be fair, it would be scary driving I-10 late at night with all the semis blowing your Smart Car off the road as they passed you at 90 miles per hour.
