Basically it's all about cultural assimilation. Hispanics tend to resist cultural assimilation more than Africans, Asians, and even Native Americans. Lots of reasons for this, not the least of which is the divide-n-conquer mentality that has infected politics. There are lots and lots of exceptions, of course, and my goal in life is to make the exception the rule. But it starts with an awareness of the problems, not denial based on fears of racism.
