This crisis, its aftereffects and ineffectual responses will become another Warren Commission moment in peoples' understanding.

The most involved players seem immune; the solutions are palliative, not corrective. Responsible voices with a real commitment to the public interest are politely heard, dismissed and forgotten.

Something's missing, something's wrong: yet the obvious answer is so unpalatable that people refuse to believe it.

This is far more than deep capture: it's absolute penetration: pervasive corruption in the halls of Washington, Wall Street and global finance.

The answers don't add up, and the solutions don't work.

Don't look for justice, or effective regulation. Don't expect the truth. Expect a few sacrificial lambs: a few obvious crooks. Expect a whitewash, or more correctly a greywash where you can't tell the difference between bad guys and good.

In time it will all be forgotten.
