There are tons of scholarship programs geared to white students, most magazines are white, most tv networks are predominately white, most contestants in beauty pageants are white. And before the 1980s, there were no black magazines nor black networks. Imagine living in Germany and only Catholic org and magazines were allowed and you are Lutheran.

The Unite Negro Fund, Jet magazine etc were started when there was no alternative for blacks. No 'white' magazine ever talked about the special hair products needed for black hair; they didn't provide cosmetic tips for black skin. Before the 1960s, there were no commercials with black people in them.

The cultural black institutions that old man Rooney complained about were created to give blacks an alternative to the dominate white culture's institutions. If old man Rooney can't understand that, he is an asshole and shouldn't be on 60 Minutes.
