I think the game is intended to mimic the real world. You don't have to trade as soon as you are allowed to. Just as you don't have to trade at 7:00:01 in the pre-market or at 9:30:01 in the regular market. You can go long or short (one position only) or stay all or partially in cash. That's pretty flexible. So it tempts players to play as soon as they can. Once a month forces players to think like investors, even if you buy late one month and trade out early the next month. Then you can't trade for nearly 2 months if you want to do that again.
