My Lord Jesus, when faced with temptation by satan, always quoted the word of God. My Lord Jesus often times,(have you not read) to many people, in various situations, quoted the word of God!
Matt 4:1-13
1 Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.
2 And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred.
3 And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.
4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
5 Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple,
6 And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.
7 Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.
8 Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them;
9 And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.
10 Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.
11 Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him.
You see Ron, the devil despises the word of God, it is the one truth that he cannot stand to hear. It is a twoedged sword that cuts like a knife straight to the heart of a matter, exposing the darkness.
satan attempted to trap Jesus then and he still tries to trap the servants of our Lord even to this day. The word of God is our shield, and that is why the angels came to minister to Jesus, because He stood firm on the word of God, The word of Truth.!
satan would love nothing more than to get the servants of God Away from scripture,and use their own words,thereby causing them to lose sight of their true mission, thereby having them corrupt the true word of God by replacing it with their own which is weak and without substance. Words which are dead and are likely to comeback void.....If we are to build up those who are without faith we must do it according to the word of God ...
Rom 10:17
17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God....Not Man
2 Tim 3:15-17
15 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

Our Father did not leave us defenseless.As a matter of fact He expects nothing less than for us to know and have the inspired word in our hearts ready to bring to the hearing of them who know it not and are without truth, and or faith!
Eph 6:10-17
10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.
11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
