"Why" what?
The J. Speer-Williams article you posted was an incoherent collection of half-truths, misrepresentations and distortions put forth by a paranoid mass conspiracy whacko.
Yes... Obama has disappointed in some ways, but like it or not, we live in a democracy. The rightwingnuts, the Sarah Palins, the corporate interests, and, yes, liberals too, get to have their say and influence legislation. The process is dirty, messy, convoluted and difficult. The interim result is often not the best solution, but a stepping stone in the path of progress. Speer-Williams lives in a fantasy world where one snaps fingers and problems are instantly resolved to his satisfaction. That ain't the real world.
Obamacare is not fascism. It is the first successful attempt at universal coverage in 50 years. Certain rights, such as the right to purchase insurance without consideration of pre-existing conditions, are the bedrock of a new health care system. Over time, we will see Medicare expanded, a public option and many other changes that will move health care in the right direction. Obama twisted terrified Congressional arms, legs and made deals to get it done. Had he not done this Speer-Williams would be the first to call Obama a failure. Of course, since Speer-Williams has this silly notion from the start that Obama is an unqualified prop of special interests... what he says afterwards is pretty much expected.
Just remember... if it wasn't for Obama we could well be sitting here debating President McCain's Supreme Court picks and listening to every beat of McCain's heart, knowing that one missed beat meant... Sarah Palin, President of the United States. How's that for fascism and special interest king... err.. queen... making? |
