It looks like an environmental nightmare for the Gulf coast states...It's now clear that deep water drilling for oil is very, very risky and it should not take place near our precious ecosystems. It's also clear that the technology that BP was using was not refined enough -- not enough fail safe and back up systems in place...Essentially BP has now ruined the opportunity for ALL oil companies to pursue new offshore drilling in the Gulf and along much of the U.S. coastal waters...I predict this new spill will be much worse than the Exxon Valdez accident which had a finite amount of oil and took place in a remote bay way up in Alaska...This tragic oil spill may force the President and Congress to dramatically restrict oil drilling in U.S. waters and increase regulation, oversight, etc...Our country is way behind China in our level of investment in new Green Energy Technologies -- maybe this painful wakeup call will force the United States to start to more aggressively get off oil.
