I was surprised to hear that some in her class were actually "hiring" graduate statisticians for work on their dissertations

Dunno. It's a pretty complicated subject. It would be hard to learn enough to do all your own with confidence. I had three credit hours in grad school and then took another class on the job. I learned enough to understand and evaluate what other people have done and to contract for, collaborate with, or supervise statisticians but would never have considered doing the work on my own. I'm not sure it's something one can do as a sideline. Setting up tests and evaluations I can do with both hands tied behind my back. Statistics, not so much.

Congrats re Dr. Daughter.
