This would be a good time to engage the GOP on exactly how we deal with peak oil and the potential economic consequences:

The "drill everywhere" option is problematic at the moment.

Mandates such as fuel standards and subsidies are complex.

Higher taxes pose political problems.

Ethanol uses more energy that it produces.

Hydrogen is not in the short term horizon.

Wind & solar can't do it all.

Nuclear has issues with spent fuel and uranium supplies.

Clean coal is an oxymoron.

Cracking the Marcellus and Barnett natural gas formations has a new set of environmental risks, particularly since the drilling companies are secretive about what chemicals they're pumping through the ground water.

It should be interesting. The health care debate was a piece of cake compared to the political forces involved in energy... and... wait... did I write "engage the GOP"? Oh boy... silly me...
