LOL. Yeah, it's all a big joke. These oil companies are like every other company on earth. They will only do the minimum that is necessary unless there's a profit motive. This is why regulations are necessary. For those that think government is evil, they now see that lack of government oversight can have some serious adverse consequences, like derivatives fraud and massive oil spills and dead coal miners.

It is unclear at this point whether more regulation would have made any difference at all in this situation. It is total speculation to assume that at this time.

It does seem that once the leaks are stopped procedures ought to be established such that a faster response is possible for any future situations.

I honestly don't know why it has taken 2 weeks to come up with the idea of placing some kind of "sarcophagus" over the well. That seems like a pretty obvious solution that surely, someone has tried before.

If you're going to start assessing BP's reaction time at this point, you would have to also assess Obama's reaction time, and I'm not sure you want to go there.
