Brumar, arno, or anyone who knows Oil platforms....Question: What kind of materials is used in the long hoses (?) from the platform to the ocean floor?

Are these "pipes" reinforced with wire, cement, or canvas, or some other kind of pipe?

Are there 'curtains from the edges of the platform 'square' all the way from the platform at ocean level down to the ocean floor? If not, what would keep a whale, or other incoming torpedoes or other type of sub from hitting or damaging the hose like pipe from the platform to the ocean floor...?

Do submarines from our and other countries monitor these areas where the platforms are?

In other words, are there any protections for ANY of the equipment used under the platform to the ocean floor...???

Are there any places to look if you folks who know this kind of machinery and industry don't know?

TIA....!
