What Media Bias? Part 172

By Mark Noonan on Phil Griffin

An admission:

<<< It took a while, but MSNBC President Phil Griffin has finally admitted and embraced his cable network’s hard-left slant.
He told the Chicago Tribune that he will try to carve out a niche on the left, hoping some day to rival the Fox News Channel’s record-setting ratings.

Not so long ago, Griffin insisted that MSNBC was not “tied to ideology” — unlike Fox, which simply could not be trusted, he claimed.
Griffin even knocked FNC President Roger Ailes’s business model, criticizing him for “creat[ing] an ideological channel… I give them total credit. I tip my hat to them. They scored. But it was ideological and opportunistic. It was a business plan.”

Griffin has apparently abandoned his disdain for that business plan… >>>

It is kinda cool for Griffin to come clean – but a bit late in the game. MSNBC has been in the tank for the left for years now.

There is nothing wrong with media bias. We here at Blogs for Victory as biased – bias is ok as long as your clear about it. I’d probably watch MSNBC from time to time if they really come clean on air with their bias (nice for Griffin to say so, but I want the on-air talent to drop the pretense). Its nice to see what the other side is saying (though, generally, when I want some liberal red meat I’m heading over to The Nation, or to read anything remotely connected to Alexander Cockburn – if you’re going to be a pinko, then be a pinko!).

What grates on us is the stupid lie that the MSM is not biased. Their pious and stupidly false claim of impartiality is what causes all the grief. Someone who will just come out and say, “I’m a liberal; I believe in a certain world view; I’m going to do my best to be fair, but its my desire to see this worldview advance, and that is what I’m about” will be applauded. Any MSMer who does that will become very popular – and popular on the right as well as on the left.

We’ll see how long the phony front holds up – this could be the opening of a flood gate of liberal honesty on the matter, and then I can retire “What Media Bias?”.
