Are you trying to say that millions of peasants and poorly educated people had come to the collective conclusion that there is and never was a god???? It is that class of human that is most susceptible to superstition and fear of the unknown... What would happen in the US if our government said we were "officially atheist" and the people had to become atheists? If fiat is all it takes, the US would be 100% Baptist Christian or something similar.
