"Do you think its debatable that Stalin was an atheist freethinker or was he a Catholic (like LLCF) as you called him?"

He was brought up a Catholic and came first in the class and some say became a priest.

He was never a free thinker.

His treatment of religion tells me that he likely did not believe in God although there is no way to know.

What is more important than his religion is his politics. He was a Marxist.

What is perhaps more important than his politics was his psychology. He appears to have been a sociopath.

We know that his catholic connections helped him out of Siberia several times but that does not mean that he retained his 30 years of Catholic indoctrination and expertise.

Personally, I believe (in spite of the Catholic experience and continued connection) that he did not believe in God. But I cannot find any quotes from him expressing that belief. There are thousands of official gods and an infinite number of gods that can be believed in (especially by a sociopath). So we don't know. It certainly doesn't matter whether or not he believed in any god, now does it?? It doesn't matter a pinch of coon sh-t.

What we know without any doubt is that he WAS NOT a freethinker.

I don't condemn him because of his religion or lack of religion. THAT IS IRRELEVANT. (although it may be important to you?). I love religious people like Socrates and Marcus Aurelius and I love freethinkers like Ingersoll and myself. I hate bastards like Stalin. But I don't hate them because they don't believe in any of the Gods. I don't know if they have superstitions, and I don't care. I hate them because of their immorality. People can still be moral while believing in a god. You don't need to be an atheist to be moral.

And atheists can be immoral, too. Mind you they are really under represented in the prison population. More research certainly needs to be done on that...
