UMC 500 bln twd project to start construction Nov 18

TAIPEI (AFX-ASIA) - United Microelectronics Corp said construction of its
500 bln twd project in the Tainan science based industrial park is scheduled
to start Nov 18.
Construction of the first 8-inch wafer fab in the investment package will
be compeleted in 1999, Sandy Yen, senior manager of UMC's marketing Promotion
Department said.
