If Australia charges too much, they'll miss out. Bad luck then for both the miners and the tax people. Bad luck for everyone else too.

But it seems they aren't missing out, so maybe they are a bit like Saudi Arabia = sitting on a big pile of found wealth.

If the government spends the money wisely [extremely unlikely] and cuts tax in other areas to compensate [for example a bit of a cut in company tax], then there's no problem.
