He addresses the US$ as a "back up" currency for places like Zimbabwe, Greece... and how so long as oil is denominated in $ the perspectives on real value get skewed.

A perverse interpretation of this is that so long as other countries' economies keep self destructing the printed US buck has a demand that keeps US inflation, in check.

If you strip the gold bug angle out of the article it is an interesting read.
