Steady on CB, it's just a bit of oil. People love to go hysterical, especially when it's Big Oil or Banks or other "Evil-doers" who in fact bring enormous benefits to their customers.

If the oil washes ashore, it's free salvage rights. You are allowed to go and help yourself - hmmm, on reflection, it's probably illegal to collect it because lawyers and government spivs make everything illegal unless you pay them first. The things that aren't illegal are compulsory.

Don't be too traumatized. It's great news and the media love it and the politicians can strut around and pose and go on photo ops and pronounce that they have their "boot on BP's throat" [which seems a hideous state of mind lurking there - as though BP did it on purpose and the courageous warrior politicians are fighting evil].

It probably won't amount to much. But it's best to avoid swimming in the oil - though it would help avoid sunburn and melanoma.
