>>why do Legal Hispanic Americans want millions of illegals to flood the border and push down wages that effect the Hispanic community the most. The Protesters love wages 60% below what they should earn?<<

That's a huge controversy among the Hispanic community here.

Many legal hispanics want to bring over numerous other family members any way they can (supporting the ongoing and reprehensible human smuggling trade), or else are already harboring family members here. Some are small business owners who specifically profit from underpaying illegal immigrants to staff their businesses. Thus their opposition to the bill.

There is some support for the SB 1070 from some US citizens (both naturalized and generational) of hispanic descent and from those with work visas. Many folks in these groups end up competing with illegals for employment, particularly in the construction trades (where they are frequently undercut on salary). There is also a fairness issue, i.e, "Why give a break to the ones who don't get a green card or get naturalized". Those are very legitimate points I think. I'm all for punishing employers who hire illegals, but the law says if you're here as a non-citizen you are required to carry your green card, visa, or passport at all times. Most can handle that without feeling "violated". It's what I'd expect traveling overseas. Why should we be different, especially if we ARE having security concerns (re narcoterrorism and general cross-border criminal activity). Frankly most folks in AZ don't care if we're considered outcasts for this bill. It's about physical safety and economic survival at this point for many. If Al Sharpton doesn't like it, instead of deporting illegals back to the motherland, we'll buy 'em all a one way ticket to his home.
