I'm part way through Sowell's latest Tour de force. I can't convey his precision of thought in a more concise manner, but he gives an excellent analysis of this phenomena. Most reporters are liberals. They largely have the intellect of starlings along with another attribute. They're mostly sold on a vision of a perfected societal arrangement imposed by "intellectuals" and they consider themselves agents of that august group. Facts and experience that conflict with a shared vision simply don't register. The tendency toward exaggeration and outright lies follows in varying degrees. It's more than simple possession of a whole lot of stupid.
