I just clicked on the fact that was in Bangor, Maine. I'd already been thinking of an incident in Maine when I visited there in relation to it. Go Maine women!
I was in Belfast for several days, and one day while hanging in the diner on the wharf (didn't see da rat there), I was writing and some dude sat down by me and started chatting, as if when a person is writing they are inviting convo???
anyways, I'd been told by the waitress that come evening, people gathered at a place up the road to hang out and do the kareoko, so after hours of coffee and trying to write while a voice chattered at me, I excused myself to head up there.
dude followed me there and plopped down by me. I finally was 'not so sweetly southern' (imagine that), and told him I was not interested in talking with him and I moved to another stool.
He followed along and raised his voice to me and took on a beligerrant physical posture. Next thing I knew, 3 young Maine women were around me and informed him it was time for him to shove off... which he did. talk about gals putting on like they mean business.
I spent the rest of the evening quite enjoying the locals belting out kareoko, which is not my norm. And I was relaxed and at peace, despite being on my own 1700 miles from home.
and come time to call it a night, two of them appeared as I walked out and escorted me to my car.
very cool place.
again, thanks for that article. rock on Maine gals, and gals everywhere. |
