"and then review which ones are more vital and reduce those entitlements down to fit the budget and get rid of all the others." So that puts us back to 'picking and choosing' what to spend our money on.... But, since we don't have a King or Dictator, but are in fact a Republic with elected officials... what to spend on gets put into the hands of our elected officials. (And, I think I can safely guarantee you that Social Security and Medicare --- two of the most popular government programs and ones where citizens have ALREADY PAID their taxes into over long years, are not going to be "eliminated". :-)
