"However, widely cited polling, like the multistate University of Washington survey released last month, has found that large swaths among those who show strong support for the Tea Party also hold the most extreme views on a range of racial issues."
Wow! One study. By a university assistant professor of political science. A phone interview. Conducted once.
"The survey reached 1,015 residents of Nevada, Michigan, Missouri, Ohio, North Carolina, Georgia and California." Wow! One thousand respondents. Across 7 states, including California, the most populous state in the nation with around 37 million people. And these were the people who were at home, answering their phones. Any of you people tried to do cold calls on the telephone lately? But these 1,000 souls are taken to represent the 300 million plus people in the United States of all racial, ethnic, social, political and economic backgrounds to answer sensitive questions about race in America. For instance, they must have "told" the interviewer what their own race is, and this is always straightforward. Consider our own "black" president. And these people probably also all spoke English or Spanish, or some other language the interviewers could handle -- things that are always covered in a one-off telephone survey. And then they reported their "preliminary analysis". No problem, preliminary analysis is just as reliable and reportable as final analysis, right? With conclusions such as this: "The data suggests it may also be about race,”said Christopher Parker, a UW assistant professor of political science who directed the survey." "The data suggests". "May be about race." Wow!
And, heck, if an assistant professor said it, then IT MUST BE TRUE. Wow! Among the other "findings": "Preliminary analysis also reveals race affects the ways in which blacks and whites perceive the president, his policies, and how he’s handling his job." OMG! The Tea Party folks don't perceive what a wonderful job the President is doing. Just try to deny THAT! And, oh, please don't produce the actual survey questions. No need to question the objectivity of the survey instrument here. Not in a survey conducted by the Washington Institute for the Study of Ethnicity, Race and Sexuality. No chance of any loaded questions sneaking in from an outfit like that. Wow.
And then peckerheads all over the internet pick it up and broadcast it liberally it in an effort to discredit people who actually state what they are intent on addressing - limited constitutional government, fiscal responsibility, the rule of law, etc. Wow. And if a professor at a fundamentalist Christian college were to announce the preliminary results of a telephone survey of pedophiles in 7 states and preliminarily find that, say, 75% of them are democrats who think that Obama is doing a splendid job, will we be able to conclude then also that "the fringe theory is a farce."?
Wow.
"Conducted by telephone from Feb. 8 to March 15, the survey reached 494 whites, 380 blacks, 77 Latinos and 64 members of other races. The sampling error margin is plus or minus 3.1 percentage points. The Washington Institute for the Study of Ethnicity, Race and Sexuality and the UW Department of Political Science paid for the survey. It was conducted by the UW’s Center for Survey Research."
Wow. Such unabashed demagoguery. And so smugly and uncritically reproduced. the44diaries.wordpress.com Wow. |
