Prison rape says a lot about a country and its mindset when we consider that most inmates are there for bs crimes like drugs.
You may recall previous discussions we had about racism in Hawaii. Well, it seems to be getting worse. In Kona we now have Hawaiian gangs doing home invasions at parties and beating the kids(tend to be in the late teens to 30 age) senseless, then ransacking and robbing the home. The kids like to go to remote beaches or outlying areas like up on the mountain to party and it has been happening there as well. Cars destroyed, girls raped, boys beat unconscious...
It happened to my 19 year old son, born and raised here. They weren't even having a party. Just 5 kids sitting around hitting the bong at his house and having some beers. 30 Hawaiian guys showed up, beat them senseless, took golf clubs to their cars and trashed the house. The Hawaiian cops showed up after a neighbor called them. The perpetrators ran into the jungle. The cops called them back out. Told them, "You boys had your fun, now go home." Then turned to my son and warned him that he was lucky he wasn't going to jail for underage drinking!
That was minor compared to what happened last Friday night at Kiholo Bay. The gang came down there and raped a girl, then beat the partyers senseless. When they got up their cars on the highway, every car was trashed and stripped. The cops showed up at 7am, 4 hours after they were able to find someone with a cell phone and call them. They told the cops the perpetrators were still down at the beach and the cops said, "So what? Go home."
This thing is literally happening almost daily now. The manager of a restaurant down at the beach told us they has over a dozen rapes in the last week alone along the area next to the restaurant.
The police are very adept at issuing seat belt tickets, but not much else. One home invasion happened to a friend of mine that traces his family history back over 150 years here. He is pretty wealthy but doesn't live like it. He has a construction company and builds houses on many of his properties for his workers and is really one of the nicest guys you'd ever meet. They were shocked at what happened. Many family heirlooms were smashed or stolen. |
