the cost to manufacture an item and its true cost should be evaluated based on use of the item.. if the coin stays in circulation for 5 years it costs x to mfg.. if it stays in circulation 10 years then would cost be cut in half?

i am not sure it is meaningful what it cost to manufacture the nickel vs the value of it being in circulation.

as for the penny we should just eliminate it.
