Bobby,
IMHO, I don't think we will ever have another "depression" except through the view of history. The News media controls all of the US. Only if enough of them use the words "crash & depression" will we have one. The government can now lie about inflation, can they also not lie about deflation? They can tell us that inflation does not exist even when the prices of fuel, food, clothing,& housing increase.
Did you pick up a bit on national news about the new hydrogen fuel cell? This holds the promise of 100-180 mpg electric hybrid cars. These new better cars could be (per the TV account) could be available
by late 1999 to mid 2001. These would still use gasoline as a source for the hydrogen.
This coupled with the current host of incurable disease could bring about a sudden reduction in demand for a most basic commodity. Remeber, Galbreth believed that it was the sudden reduction in demand
after WWI that helped bring us into the great depression.
