shameful...
from the reuters news service:
"According to the Meta Group in Stamford, Conn., in 1996, IBM will have about 73 percent of the world mainframe market, down from 81 percent in 1995. Hitachi is expected to jump to 20 percent this year, up from 7 percent last year, while Amdahl's share falls to 7 percent from 12 percent. "
mr. amdahl would turn over in his grave (if he were dead) knowing *hitachi* now has a greater market share than amdahl corp.
amdahl's management is laughable. they *never* seem to get it right. neither sticking with what they know best through good and bad, nor moving to better prospects. they both drop mainframes, the company mainstay, and get into consulting, a 2 bit freelance game commonly known as unemployment by individuals. its management is so thinly skilled, it goes after the 2000 problem market, something highly overrated by the media and short lived at best.
i would enjoy the humiliation heartily if it were not for the tragedy of the protracted death of a potent american company. |
