I watched a good TV documentary about a month ago on Minoan Crete.

The civilization went into severe decline around about the time of the eruption of the Thera volcano. There is even evidence the population had to resort to cannibalism.

The last time we had a depression, it really took a world war to get economies back on track.

Looking at things in a optimistic light, perhaps if Katla does blow, the disaster will be such that economies will be spurred to offset the extreme difficulties that would be encountered, even to just feed the population.

Now that Cameron is the new UK pm, it should be one of the plans he has on the "back burner" if not on the "front burner", as it looks like a strong possibility that it will happen.
