The acoustical backup control for the shutoff valve would allow the well to be remotely shut off after the accident.

It might not have done so. And since your not asserting that it might have, but that it would have done so, the burden of proof is on you.

The fact that this backup didn't work leads to speculation that the cause of the failure was at the sub sea level, with some physical or electrical fault preventing the shutoff from happening. If that's the cause a setup for an acoustical signal to the shutoff valve unit wouldn't have done any good."
