David you are right that the deep discounters may not get the best price but from what I hear Schwab does not either. Don't get me wrong, Schwab service has been pretty good and I will stay with them even if I go to another broker. I usually put in limit orders which means I may miss a trade with a deep discounter but not usually pay more than I want. To get the savings you refer to we need a broker to 'work' a trade. From what I can tell Schwab does not 'work' a trade. I'm not an expert in the mechanics of actual trades but from what I have read on: siliconinvestor.com./~wsapi/investor/Subject-15612 it looks like you need to interface with a human being to get the best price at any particular time. And that human needs to be with the right company and be honest and a expert in trading.
