Maurice - Re: " It gives you all the Apps you need from a central site, all maintained
and upgraded overnight.""

What Apps are these? Today, 80 - 90% of people use applications that run on Wintel machines. How are these going to run on NCs? The emulation mode referred to won't cut it.

Will ALL NEW applications have to be developed? Who will do these? And how will the new apps save money when they will have to be purchased new, debugged, training expenses incuured, etc.?

As for shared resources - I worked in an environment where a fairly large department (20 - 30 users) had a shared network printer. These users were always standing around the printer WAITING for their project to print - if it printed at all. Lost in the network is where many of these projects ended up.

My recommendation was to put in a water cooler and coffee pot in the printer room, along with a table for card games so people had something to do while waiting for their print-outs. Perhaps a DOOM CARD GAME would have been in order!

Of course, the users did get good exercise walking back and forth to the printer room as they had to do very periodically. What a waste of time.

As for people who play games on their computers - this reflects the kind of personnel that a company hires. Busy, industrious people take their work and their computers seriously. They don't play computer games.

On the flip-side, those who play games on PCs will merely find another way to waste time if NCs are used to replace PCs. Human nature can't be changed this way.
