Yup....there should be global standards for all offshore oil drilling -- no doubt about it. btw, China has shifted into overdrive when it comes to developing and rolling out new Green Energy Technologies -- they are way ahead of the U.S....of course in China they don't have to deal with Congress and Crazy debates about whether energy reform is worth it <G>...the top decision makers decide what's best for China and then they move ahead and make the investments in the areas they feel are appropriate -- no debate and lobbyists don't have much influence...Democracy has it's advantages but it also can make it very difficult to make dramatic but necessary changes that may be in our country's best interest...The large corporate interests from Wall Street, Health Care, Big Oil and the Military Industrial Complex really drive the agenda in Washington (regardless of who the president is).
