You misunderstand what I am saying. I am saying that in the summer of 1965 when I entered service none of your 1968 concerns (or hardly any) regarding VN were up on the draftee/volunteer horizons (certainly wasn't up on mine). VN at the time was mostly a professional soldiers (advisors/special forces) concern and had been that way pretty much since 1958 (although the number of advisors had been ratcheting up each year). No one in the general public had an inkling of what was to come (SNCC, Draft Resisters, Mohammed Ali refusing induction and going to jail, MLK & RFK assassinations, LBJ not running again, and Pentagon Papers). So unlike your informed perspective at the time of your entry into service, mine was one of "just doing my duty in the cold war commie era". Comprende?
