tejek m'boy. You brag of posting here practically non-stop for 10 years or so. The official reports show that job openings for teachers average 16% per year of 3.5million existing jobs plus a growing number of new teaching jobs reaching to 3.9million by 2018.

You've reported that your excuse since student teaching is that teaching jobs are hard to find. Yet one of the authoritative links I posted declared a teaching shortage over the past two decades.

Now you tell me there have been layoffs over the past two years. There are always layoffs tejek, and for a number of reasons which are usually regional. The tax base has been hit pretty hard during the economic hard times so that likely represents something more broad spread. Not to mention, many people who wanted better paying jobs have probably returned to the more secure teaching jobs. But as you pointed out, that has only been during the past two years, and you've been posting here a lot longer than that.

I see positions open up in our district and they are being filled by hard working dedicated professionals who work hard in and around the profession when not on a full time contract ... like subs and volunteers.

Teacher hiring goes up and down during different periods but over the years the trend has always been up. Public education the biggest employer in the country.

"......half my cohort doesn't have jobs.

In your case it appears 'ever had a job' including when the economy was strong. Your cohorts? Yeah well, that speaks for itself. Who do you think you are kidding?
