Cirrus Logic's CrystalClear Audio IC Selected for New Dell Portable PCs
CS4237B Provides Industry-Leading Audio in the Dell Latitude CP
FREMONT, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 6, 1997--Cirrus Logic Inc. (NASDAQ:CRUS) today announced that Dell Computer Corp. (NASDAQ:DELL) chose the high-quality sound from Cirrus Logic's CrystalClear single-chip audio subsystem (CS4237B) for the new Dell Latitude CP portable PCs, launched earlier this week.
The CS4237B brings the industry's highest quality sound and desktop-equivalent audio features to the Latitude CP machines. Dell also chose the CS4237B for the recently-announced Dell Inspiron 3000 portable PCs.
The CS4237B provides high-quality audio output (85 dB dynamic range), full duplex capabilities, and advanced power management. The CS4237B also features SRS 3D sound enhancement from SRS Labs, providing a dramatically wider sound field from the Latitude's integrated speakers.
Furthermore, the CrystalClear audio solution employs a unique digital docking solution using Crystal CS4333 DACs and CS5330 ADCs in the docking station to maintain unparalleled audio quality even while the Latitude is docked. Typical docking solutions are analog, degrading the quality of the sound as it passes through the dock to the external speakers.
''Cirrus Logic is pleased to provide the highest quality audio available in the industry to these Dell systems,'' stated Art Swift, vice president of marketing for Cirrus Logic's PC Products Division. ''The Latitude CP system once again illustrates the breadth of Cirrus Logic's PC audio solutions which leverage our mixed-signal expertise. Our goal is to deliver PC audio quality levels akin to those found in consumer sound systems.''
In addition to the unparalleled audio quality and advanced features, the CS4237B is certified by the Windows Hardware Quality Labs (WHQL) and meets all PC 97 requirements, including driver support for Microsoft Windows 95, Windows 98, and Windows NT.
The Latitude CP is the latest in a series of recently announced Dell computers to feature CrystalClear audio. The Dell Inspiron portable PC, announced in September, also features the CS4237B. The Dell OptiPlex-GXa corporate desktop PC, announced in August, is the second generation of the OptiPlex family to use the CS4236B. Finally, the Dell Workstation 400, a Pentium-II based personal workstation, also employs the CS4236B.
