Alexander the Great couldn't win in Afghanistan and he pulled out all the stops to go as low as he had to in order to win. In the end, he had to marry the daughter of a powerful warlord so everyone could get out declaring victory. But the growth of his empire was almost ground to a halt in Afghanistan.

So if he couldn't do it, and the Soviets couldn't do it, when those two would fight dirty as hell and civilians be damned, what makes us think we can do it with all of our rules of war that we impose on ourselves?

No way. It's a waste of money. We should be fighting with drones, fighter jets, long range missiles, and special force assassination squads. Bring all the rest of the troops home NOW.
