Leo, After reading your post and thinking about it a bit, the real sting was the message sent by Novell. For IBM its more of a publicity stunt than making an actual dent in the corporate market for NC's.

I'm trying to reconcile the benefits of the thin client and thin applets with the cheap prices and high power of today's PC. Hard drives are cheap enough, with plenty of capacity irrespective of lengthy Window's programming code. But the power of a Suite upgrade like WP8 for roughly $100 compared to an extremely "thin" eSuite for $69 in light of the low cost of hardware???

Obviously it all comes down to control. Where will the enduser software reside compared to the costs to maintain it. But, on the Windows side, Win 95 is extremely stable compared to previous versions. I hope that WIN 98 will be moreso. If system integrity and stability become more effective through the interface, the cost to maintain a standard "thick" client will be drastically reduced, leaving the full power of the applications available to the end user.

If Microsoft would provide the same knowledge if its Windows operating system to all developers, it just might stave off much of the Java and NC threat that now exist???? What are your thoughts?

Scott
