HP's First JetSend Developers Conference Attracts Interest From Top Technology Manufacturers
Industry Support Growing Rapidly for HP's Open information-appliance Protocol
Palo Alto, California. Nov. 4, 1997
Hewlett-Packard Company hosted some of the biggest names in the computer industry at its first JetSend developers conference, held in San Francisco on Oct. 27 and 28. The conference was the first opportunity for manufacturers of information appliances to see a live demonstration of JetSend-enabled devices and to learn how to integrate the technology into their products.
Companies represented at the JetSend conference included such recognized names as Canon, Eastman-Kodak, Intel, Lexmark, Motorola, NEC, Panasonic, Polaroid, Toshiba and Xerox. Many other hardware companies attended, along with companies that are involved in building the JetSend infrastructure. These companies represent such technologies as secure Internet transmission, intelligent document delivery, infrared implementations and incorporation of JetSend into embedded operating systems.
"Having these recognized companies at our first conference is a strong indication that the JetSend vision has captured the industry's imagination," said Atul Bhatnagar, general manager of HP's Information Appliance Operation. "JetSend is rapidly building momentum as evidenced by the caliber of companies that have gathered at the conference."
Charles LeCompte, president of Lyra Research and publisher of The Hard Copy Observer, gave the keynote address at the conference.
"In one fell swoop, JetSend solves many of the problems that other technologies are intended to address, in particular the issue of compatibility between a host system and a remote device," said LeCompte. "If JetSend fulfills its promise, the implications for HP and the industry are immense."
The two-day conference featured discussions related to the marketing and development of the JetSend architecture. Topics included JetSend marketing opportunities and the implementation of the JetSend appliance development kit.
