(NYSE: WMT), reported net sales for the four-week period ended October 31, 1997, of $9,146,000,000, an increase of 14.5% from the $7,987,000,000 in the similar period in the prior year. For the 39-week period ended October 31, 1997, sales increased 12.1% to $82,910,000,000. Sam's Clubs sales for the four-week period were $1,588,000,000, up 2.4% from $1,551,000,000 in the similar prior-year period. Club sales for the 39 weeks of $14,817,000,000 were up 3.7% over the similar prior-year period. Comparable sales for the periods ended October 31, 1997, were as follows:
