3com is long-term hold for me, a bit of good news about Gateway using Coms : ***************************************************************** The Wall Street Journal -- November 6, 1997 Technology Brief -- GATEWAY 2000 INC.: Nationwide Access Service To the Internet Is Planned Gateway 2000 Inc. next Monday will launch a nationwide Internet access service to people who buy its home computers. For the initiative, Gateway, North Sioux City, S.D., will integrate Internet access software, including Microsoft Corp.'s web browsing program, and modems based on U.S. Robotics Corp.'s x2 technology into all its home systems. The service will be expanded to owners of existing Gateway personal computers early next year. The PC maker has contracted with a national Internet provider to run the service, though Mike Flanary, manager of software and Internet services at Gateway, wouldn't identify the company. Gateway set pricing at $12.95 for 30 hours of usage per month. Additional hours will cost $2.95 each.
